About The Farm
The Catton family have farmed at Faulkners End for four generations established by Jesse Catton in 1901 and continues to the present day with Ralph Catton and fourth generation son Tom Catton. Faulkners End Farm consists of approximately 500 acres of mixed arable for the production of cereals and pulses and grassland which supports our Beef Shorthorn Suckler Herd.
Since the turn of the century, cattle have always been reared on the farm and historically have been bred for commercial outlets. With increasing concerns about the direction of commercial marketing (the supermarket dominated stronghold over the market and the closure of local abattoirs leading to excessively high food miles), our concern for the welfare of the animals in our care has led us to investigate a different way of overcoming these hurdles. This approach would involve a more personal input, not only with the production of good meat but with more control over the finished product. Thus the decision was taken by the family to produce our own fully traceable pedigree Shorthorn beef to sell direct to the consumer. This way we can dictate the food miles and reduce the stress involved in the slaughter and butchering of our animals and as such can honestly offer locally produced superior quality meat.
